The Northeast Ohio Sierra Club

Promoting a clean, just, and sustainable future for all in Northeast Ohio.

Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. We are the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States.

The Northeast Ohio Sierra Club

The Ohio Chapter was established in 1968 and represents more than 125,000 members and supporters. The NEO Sierra Club Group is made up of more than 4,000 Sierra Club members from Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Lorain, Erie, and Huron Counties.

The Northeast Ohio Group was established in 1970 after the first Earth Day which drew participants from elementary, middle, and high schools, colleges, and residents all over greater Cleveland. The Northeast Ohio Sierra Club advocates for energy efficiency, renewable sources of energy, public transit, and livable, healthy communities. We advocate for green infrastructure, regulating industrial and farm pollution, and protecting our air, water, and land. We support local, sustainable agricultural practices. We endorse and engage with leaders and candidates for office who share our goals and values. Finally, we promote Ohio’s transition to a 21st-century economy through the creation of good-paying, long-standing green jobs.

The Northeast Ohio group is organized into committees which conduct a variety of conservation-oriented activities including outings, campaigns, and educational programs. We also engage with staff from the Ohio chapter and national Sierra Club to enhance our reach and effectiveness.

In Sierra Club Ohio, we operate with our Code of Conduct. Our focus is that all volunteers and staff engage in a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging environment. Read more about our Code of Conduct and its purpose here.
