As Sierra Club seeks to articulate its message of sustainability and environmental protection within the U.S., we should not lose sight of efforts to promote sustainability in other parts of the world. Particularly notable are the efforts of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability, directed by Professor Quimsiyeh. Despite working under very adverse conditions, the Institute and Professor Quimsiyeh continue to advocate for environmental protection and rapprochement between the peoples of Palestine and Israel. Without rapprochement and peace, environmental protection becomes impossible as seen in the horrific events in Gaza. I encourage everyone to learn more about the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability and lend support to its efforts.
